The journey within

Yesterday I was confronted with this idea of identity. I was asked 'what do you specialize in besides EdTech?'. I didn't really know how to answer that and I couldn't tell if the person asking was being sincere or testing me. Taking it as a sincere question, I answered awkwardly, but it hit me that I guess I don't have just one specialty. I'm knowledgeable and proficient in many areas, like a lot of people, but why does that matter? As an educator, our specialty should be reaching that one student and making a light bulb go off, causing a beautiful connection to whatever material and content is being covered. It should be about making what is difficult, tangible and understood. I feel confident in those areas although I am not a classroom teacher. I suppose it's all a journey anyway.
